September Birds

Flying Ducks

Above us fly ducks
Sixteen silhouetted shapes
On a wall of sky

Long-tailed tits and great tits

A little storm flies
Through the garden; whirlwind calls
And lightning flash wings

House martins

I watch from the door
House martins drawing sky signs
A language of wings

Spring fields and garden birds

A twister springs up
Swirling wings in a grey sky
Seagulls storm the field

The farmer’s field lake
Grown fat with winter flooding
Now ducks feed for free

Through the window, here!
Robin acknowledges me
For windowsill seeds

Little wren hunts flies
While the blackthorn’s in full bloom
We share the blossom

Ducks, Swallows & Rooks

Bedgebury Pinetum Ducks

In puddles of shade
With one eye on the picnic
Snoozing ducks paddle

Marden Swallows

The violin cry
Winged bow across taut June sky
Roof top soloist

Rook

Fractured shadows cast
By cold wings through the pine trees
Needle sharp eyes search
